History & Heritage
The idea for a dedicated Jagannath Temple in Bokaro was conceived in the early 1990s by the vibrant community of Odia engineers, administrators, and staff working at Bokaro Steel Plant, with enthusiastic patronage from the BSL management.
The foundation stone was officially consecrated in 1992. Renowned temple architects (Sthapatis) from Odisha were commissioned to carve the pink sandstone and marble structures, strictly mirroring the ancient Kalinga architectural guidelines of the Puri Jagannath Dham.
The grand consecration (Prana Pratishtha) of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, Devi Subhadra, and Sudarshana was celebrated in 2001. Today, it hosts the grandest annual Ratha Yatra chariot festival in Jharkhand, drawing tens of thousands of devotees.
