History & Heritage

Inaugurated on February 14, 1989 by the management of Bokaro Steel Plant, the Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park was created to foster biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and family recreation in the burgeoning industrial city.

Spanning over 127 acres of dense natural forest land, the biological park is the largest recognized zoo in the state of Jharkhand. Over the years, the park has achieved notable breeding successes for rare big cats including Royal Bengal tigers and Asiatic lions.

The park also features the famous mini toy train 'Moonj Express', an artificial boating lake, an aquarium house, and expansive open-moated enclosures designed to replicate natural wildlife habitats.
